Outstanding Graduates from the Class of 2023
Lutfil Hadi Bin Iskandar
As the first JAE student to be our Junior College Students' Council President, Lutfil’s unwavering commitment to make a positive impact on the student body left an indelible mark on the school. A people-centric leader, he was proactive in creating opportunities for students to bond together and have those #whyrv moments. Lutfil became a driving force behind student initiatives and school events, shaping the student experience and enabling his peers to thrive together.
Ng Qi Heng
A valedictorian for the Class of 2023, Qi Heng took on leadership as the Vice President of the Science Leaders Academy, Infocomm Club, and Audio-Visual Club. Through his leadership roles, he not only facilitated knowledge-sharing but also inspired fellow students to delve deeper into these fields. His inventive thinking capabilities and passion for aerodynamics also shone when his self-initiated project on the redesign and optimisation of wings of autonomous planes was adopted for mentorship by engineers from the DSO National Laboratories and his project won awards in various competitions.
Gan Xi Yee
As Vice President of Junior College Students' Council and an EXCO member of the school’s Bicultural Leaders Academy (BLA) and RV Chamber Singers, Xi Yee is a multi-faceted leader whose accomplishments earned her the Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence in 2022. Despite her busy schedule, she made time for her musical pursuits by performing in the Voices Festival Choir at the Esplanade with other avid choristers and the internationally renowned group, The King's Singers. She even participated in the National Schools Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition where she was awarded 2nd place in the solo singing category (check out Zaobao’s interview with her here. Under the BLA, Xi Yee organised various seminars and fora on contemporary China for her peers to deepen their understanding of the global political climate. In recognition of her exemplary performance in both Chinese and English Language, she received the Ee Hoe Hean Chinese Book Prize Award in 2022.
Wong Kang Lim
An environmentalist at heart, Kang Lim was deeply involved in environmental-related activities. As the President of The Eco Sustainability Leaders' Academy, he sought to address pressing environmental issues by promoting water and food sustainability through a myriad of activities. His passion in using scientific principles to create innovative solutions for complex problems was exemplified in his project where he collaborated with NTU professors on a 9-month research project that focused on Malaria prevention in India. Kang Lim’s dedication to eco stewardship serves to inspire his peers to advocate for a more sustainable future.
Chen Zhe Rui
Zhe Rui’s avid interest in Mathematics and the Sciences is evident when he relished every opportunity to utilise his knowledge in real-world applications and participate in problem-solving. took the initiative to deepen his understanding of Computing and Modelling by reading widely. Under Zhe Rui’s leadership in the Mathematics Leaders Academy (MLA), he organised various activities to build a vibrant community of learners eager to explore the wonders of Mathematics.
Shermaine Kuah
With a heart for community service, Shermaine went above and beyond her school responsibilities to serve the community tirelessly. She proactively identified community needs and organised large-scale events and activities to help uplift the community. When leading the Service and Citizenship Society, she advocated the importance of serving others, igniting her peers’ passion and showing them how to meaningfully value-add in a service-learning opportunity. Her genuine enthusiasm and passion for the community projects she managed truly set her apart as a compassionate and empathetic leader.
Chyann Cheah
Chyann was a multifaceted leader and achiever whose talents span across various domains. As the Captain of the Floorball team, she consistently demonstrated leadership qualities by guiding her teammates and fostering team unity. Chyann’s passion extends to dance as she sought opportunities to participate in external dance competitions and even practised at dance studios outside of school in a bid to hone her craft. Her achievements in floorball and dance show her versatility and dedication to pursuing her passions.
Ganesh S
A role model and servant leader at heart, Ganesh finds joy in helping others and working towards the greater good. Having demonstrated exceptional leadership and community service, he was one of ten Primers to be conferred the Boys’ Brigade President’s Award in 2023 (you can read about it here. As the Council Chairman of the Boys' Brigade’s 50th Singapore Company, he advised his peers and helped them to become stronger leaders. Ganesh also had an immense love for football, having joined the Woodlands Lions Under-17s and qualifying for the Singapore Under-17 Centre of Excellence League through hard work and perseverance. In leading the school’s ‘A’ Division Boys team, he oversaw the formation of the joint RV and NUS High’s football teams and conducted training sessions for the team. His ability to commit to both community service and football serves as an inspiration to all who know him.
Jessie Wong
After Jessie graduated from her secondary school, she pursued banking and finance at a polytechnic in 2021. However, when she realised that she had a deep-seated passion for STEM subjects and problem-solving, she decided to switch to the A-Level route. Taking the JC route was no easy feat for Jessie as she could not recall some of the math and science concepts that she had studied in secondary school after spending a year in polytechnic. Things took a positive turn when Jessie’s dedicated subject tutors encouraged her and gave her additional help after learning about her academic concerns. This, coupled with supportive schoolmates who readily shared their knowledge and explained the concepts that she grappled with, allowed her to gradually find the academic rigour to be an enjoyable challenge. Jessie’s academic journey has been a remarkable one and her story is a testament to the power of determination and the extraordinary heights one can reach with sheer courage and grit.
